A Rose and a Star
A romantic historical novel in two parts, covering two
generations, recreating a bygone age of gypsies, landed estates,
smugglers and highway robbers. The age is resuscitated with convincing
dramatic tension—from the intrigue and shady dealings of a country
estate to the theatrical, sophisticated yet sometimes bawdy life of
London. This is a compelling read that takes the reader back to a bygone age
which, however, is resuscitated with convincing dramatic tension—from
the intrigue and shady dealings of a country estate to the theatrical,
sophisticated yet sometimes bawdy life of London. About the author Gloria
West (aka Nancy Beattie) was born in
the Scottish Borders but brought up in Birmingham. She was
educated at Byng Kenrick Grammar School and Garretts Green
Technical College, both in Birmingham. She has been a secretary,
a hotel receptionist, civil servant, a YTS instructor, an
occasional crowd artiste (or “extra”) on the TV and recently
completed a teaching assistant course. Her interests are
reading, amateur dramatics, folk music and dancing, theatre and
cinema going. She now lives in Shropshire with her partner who
is a talented singer and musician.
