The “reflections” in this
volume were inspired by the author’s acquisition of a house in
the splendid isolation of a remote village surrounded by a
scenic reserve. In Waipori Falls Village, about an hour's drive
from Dunedin, in South Island, New Zealand, the author and his
old friend and colleague Dr Garrett Evans could reflect upon
life, on their experiences in different parts of the world where
they had lived. This is followed by the author’s reflections
back in Clashnessie, his home in the Highlands of Scotland,
followed by his reflections during the summer of 2008, which he
spent at his home in Nova Scotia. The book, which encompasses
the three locales, constitutes, in effect, a “trilocation”
portmanteau! All the reflections, wherever they are set, were
inspired by his time in Waipori, which began the whole process.
Also included are a number of articles by John
Kelly, being memories of the early days in Waipori Falls Village, at the
time when the hydro-electric scheme was being constructed in the valley.

At last, a
novel a generation has been waiting for—a Bridget Jones’s Diary for the
mature romantic!
Geri Jones, though old enough to be Bridget’s mother, gets a buzz from
attending university lectures, while keeping an eye out for that elusive
Mr Right. Her best friend has just bagged her man, while her college
mate, Gloria, is about to cremate hers. Competition for men is stiff,
the outcome often an anti-climax, but Geri persists. Does her barbed
tongue disguise a soft heart worth saving? Who is brave enough to find
out? Her attempts to find happiness via personal ads, introduction
agencies and cyber-dating prove unsuccessful, but she garners enough
information about middle aged men to write a thesis on them! Her
refreshing honesty and dauntless courage prove that she empathises with
all women, everywhere.

Folks who leave the Arizona interstate highway and
venture into the barren mountainous interior do so for many reasons. The
isolation, to capture on film the awesome scenery, or perhaps to imagine
they’re walking in the footsteps of such famed Apache warriors as
Cochise and Geronimo.
In his unrelenting pursuit of wealth, multi-millionaire Jeffrey Tenison
loses all rapport with his fifteen year old son, Paul, a highly
sensitive, movie fanatic and budding writer. To salvage their
relationship, Jeffrey takes Paul on a ‘man to man’ vacation in a robust,
go anywhere Recreational Vehicle.

Nick Berry’s tongue-in-cheek divine comedy is certainly
more readable and enjoyable than The Satanic Verses! The ancient
Greeks would have approved the apocalyptical themes and theatrical
settings. The novel is a roller-coaster ride through heaven and hell—a
refreshing change from the Dawkins Delusion, and provokes some
interesting questions into the reality of divine existence.

Knowing there was no escape, her instinct was to run. Sylvie

EVER WANTED TO RUN OR
OWN YOUR OWN HOTEL OR B & B?
This book tells it like it is -
warts and all!

So You Want to Buy Your Own Hotel will prove
that Fawlty Towers isn't a myth!
Diadem Books visits Luxembourg for Diana Button's book-signing.
Do you believe in
angels?
Thought of buying your own hotel?
These pages not only make available books for you to
acquire for your own reading pleasure. They also constitute a forum for
writers to air their views on writing and publishing, and a place where
they can tell the world about their books and show samples or tit-bits
from their works. Above all, Diadem Books presents an opportunity for
writers to publish their own books in an attractive paperback format
through Writers Club Press. The publishing package,
which includes editing, will enable your book to become available on a
world-wide basis through Amazon Books, Barnes and Noble, as well as
various on-line bookstores.
Various pages in the web site may be of particular
interest:
-
THE NEWS PAGE.
We will be especially pleased to hear from small presses and
self-publishers. If you are a writer or a self-publisher, the
News page (see the button at the top) will help you learn
from others in the same field. You may wish to use the News page
yourself to tell others about yourself and h and
out some helpful advice! The News page is in effect a "Newsletter"
where you might learn of helpful organisations such as the
Author-Publisher Network, or find lists of other sites on the
world-wide web where you might glean some good advice or get some
help about your own publishing venture. You might like to tell us
about your own site, or exchange banners

-
NOVELS.
The Novel pages are where you have the opportunity to say
something about the novel(s) you have written (or about the novel(s)
you are selling). This may be in the form of a brief summary of the
plot or by way of a synopsis. This can be followed by a sample
chapter, usually the opening chapter, or some extracts from the
novel which illustrate some of the main themes or action. Naturally
you'll want to select samples that will display your writing at its
best. A reader or prospective purchaser will have the opportunity to
sample the book, just as he or she would if picking up the book and
glancing through it in a bookshop or library. An illustration of the
cover may help to catch the eye!

-
POETRY
: SELECTIONS OR ANTHOLOGIES. The pages
devoted to poetry may be for displaying specific poems you have
written, or for samples from an anthology which you have had
published or which you may have self-published. Poetry anthologies
are the most difficult to sell, so this is a good opportunity to
advertise yourself as a poet! You may like to say something about
your poetic vision or style, and what has driven you to write.

-
SELF-HELP OR
SELF-IMPROVEMENT BOOKS. Self-help,
self-improvement or "how-to" books are perhaps the easiest to sell.
People will want to read your book if you have a specific skill, or
special knowledge, to impart. You may have written a book on
fly-fishing, or on how to acquire and manage your own hotel! Or
perhaps you've developed a business plan that's made you a lot of
money! People will want to know how you did it.
These pages will also list a number of works currently available in
inexpensive soft-cover form.

A collection of poems of praise and supplication. The
verses remind us that the Lord's grace, strength and love are sufficient
for our needs and will sustain us throughout any difficulty.
An autobiographical account of the author's life from
1940, when he left England for Southern Rhodesia until his return to
England in 1999. A highlight is the entertaining account of his colonial
service in the Somaliland Protectorate.
Rhodesia was once a prosperous and thriving country, and
the story of the author's enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit in
that land, followed by his desperate escape from the country when, as
Zimbabwe, it became ruled by a tyrant, imparts a realistic perspective
of the present desperate plight of many exiles from a country that was
once a paradise and the breadbasket for so much of Africa.

This is a
thought-provoking study about the power of positive thinking and
the Christian faith. It follows the author's own personal
journey of faith and discovery as he details how his Christian
faith unleashed a positive power - in the attainment of
personal, even material goals (including the acquisition of
university degrees and a Rolls Royce!), but more significantly
in the realisation of far-reaching goals: the discovery of his
wife and ultimately the transition from university professor in
South Africa to successful hotel-owner in Scotland and to
author. An important lesson in the experience of mid-life change
is seen in the close dependence on God's love and boundless
supply for all needs, material and spiritual.
