I Met My Angel Face to Face…

Irene Letourneau

I am a person that finds great pleasure in making puzzles. Then I often ask myself why is it that I just enjoy making puzzles about angels? I made one called “An Angels Gift” and another one named “The American Angel.” Are these little angels the Lord’s gift to the people here on earth?

A time came when I had to leave my first husband after eighteen years of marriage. I asked the Lord to please watch over my children until I could get a place of my own to live and then go get my children to come and live with me.

Every night when I would try and go to sleep a calm peace would come over me right after I was done praying for my children—such a peace that it made me feel as though I was being told that the children would be okay. It took a while but then, one day, very early in the morning my little girl was knocking at my door with her sister and two little brothers waiting outside on the sidewalk because they had no idea which place was my apartment—but in my heart I knew it was an angel that took my little girl’s hand and led her right to me! I went to bed that night thanking the Lord for sending His precious angel to help.

Now I only had one more of my children to fetch and that was my oldest son Jerry. After a while I was able to get him back, too. It was right after school was out for the summer. Now I had my family back. But later on down the road, my oldest son became very ill. A brain tumor, they said.

Oh my God! A brain tumor!

Yes, the day came when I had to bury my son. What a wonderful man he had turned out to be—a man that served the Lord! But, of course, it was Jerry’s time to be taken home to Heaven. I never question the will of God but it didn’t make it any easier to be looking down at him in his coffin. I really thank God for sending me His angels that day! I never would have gotten through it without their help.

When we think of angels we have a tendency to say that they are little girls. Well, I do believe that they come in all sizes and genders: Little boys, little girls, women, and the wonderful angel that God sent to me to be a father to my children whom they adore and a precious husband to me.  After being alone for two years trying my best to raise my five children, what a welcoming angel to become the love of my life and still is after forty years!

What gets me to the point of being able to write this is what happened to me at the grocery store. My husband is now suffering from cancer, and he and I both being retired, the money is stretched to its limit. Having to buy groceries for the month and added medical supplies, I had no idea how we were going to make it through the month. I kept looking at the items that my husband was adding to the cart and wondered how in the world we were going to pay for it. I didn’t want to worry him. I was walking down the isle pushing my cart trying to decide what items I could do without while my husband went to get a package of tomatoes, when and all of a sudden a woman walked up to me and said, “Hello, I am a Christian.”  I said to her, “That is so nice to hear. I’m glad to say that I am one too.”  Then she took my hand and opened it and put something into it, saying, “I want you to have this. Please take it and I thank you.” Then off she went.

I opened my hand and was speechless! What she had put into my hand was a one hundred dollar bill! I quickly turned around and she was gone! When my husband came back to me with his tomatoes, I was crying! He asked me what was wrong and I told him what had just happened. We spent the next twenty minutes walking around the store trying to find her but never did. I completely fell apart because I had been praying the whole time I was in the store as to how I was going to be able to pay for everything!

She was a beautiful woman with black shoulder length hair and sparkling eyes. I will never forget the kind expression that was on her face. Truly, an angel sent from God.

I told different people about this. Then, coming out of Church one Sunday, I spoke to the pastor and his answer to me was, “The Lord’s Angels work in mysterious ways.” But I didn’t need for him to tell me that, for I had years of experiencing it!

Now, after you have read this, do you think I believe in angels? Oh my Lord God in Heaven! I surely do! And I thank the Lord for having sent me that elegant angel. For in my heart I feel like this has been the angel that always made me feel like my children were okay.

To this day I still ask the Lord to continue to send His angels to keep watch over my children, and I just know in my heart and soul that He will! Just like I know that He is looking after my son Jerry.

And I know He will continue to bless us with His Angels! After all, I believe I came face to face with mine!
