Review of the
book:
Famous Photos,
24 February, 2003
I recommend this book to anyone with a sense of humour, an eye for
detail and an interest in celebrities.
Bruce Robertson takes you on a wonderful journey of discovery
and photography. With chapter titles such as "Meeting
Meatloaf at a Cardiff Hotel" and "A Meeting with jason
Cook - A Fairy Tale Come True' Robertson's narrative is as
tenacious and relentless as Robertson himself in his ongoing
search for photos of the rich and famous. Take this anecdote of
meeting the meaty rock-god, Meatloaf himself:
' "Excuse me," I said, "Could I have a quick
photo with you? Perhaps you'd also sign my album?"
He looked round at me and smiled. "Sure you can," he
boomed. "Boy, no problem at all."
...
True to his word, Meatloaf had a picture with me, obligingly taken
by a Guardian reader; and afterwards Meatloaf duly signed my
Album.'
Genius. This is a book jam-packed with stars, but the real star
is Bruce himself.
