Novels and
Books by the Previous Owners
of the Kenmore Bank Hotel
Charles &
Joanne Muller were the owners of the Kenmore Bank Hotel for 11 years (1990
- 2001). During that time they wrote a number of books.
Charles Humphrey Muller, MA (Wales),
PhD (London), DLitt (OFS), DEd (SA), was Professor and Head of the
Department of English at the University of the North in South Africa for
ten years, and Senior Lecturer in English at the University of South
Africa before that. He is the author of numerous academic textbooks and
literary studies published by Oxford University Press and McGraw-Hill, and
was editor of Unisa English Studies and Communiqué,
literary journals of the University of South Africa and the University of
the North. In 1988 he left his academic career to move to Scotland where
he bought a small hotel -- the Kenmore Bank Hotel in Jedburgh, fifty miles
south of Edinburgh -- to devote more time to creative writing. Under the
name of Humphrey Muller he has written a number of novels (A
Twist in Time, The Cage and the Cross, Wheel of Fortune, Continental Drift),
and with his wife Joanne has co-authored two novels (Rapture at Sea and
Spirit of Ecstasy by ‘Carolyn Charles’). Under the name of Charles
Muller he wrote the inspirational works Have Anything
You Really Really Want and Touched by God, and served as editor
for his wife’s ‘self-help’ book So You Want to Buy a Small Hotel!
He also edited a collection of testimonies titled Touched by God.

This is both a thriller and a love story written
with a wide or popular readership in mind. While the novel is
primarily a thriller and therefore a piece of escapist fiction
rather than a serious novel, the reader will be aware of the serious
themes, the satire and underlying vein of comedy which may echo
something of the wry vision of Graham Greene. |
CONTINENTAL
DRIFT by Humphrey Muller. Published by
Writers Club Press. This
is a Bildungsroman, or a novel of character growth,
presenting a form of self-discovery for the protagonist who
wrestles with a hopeless marriage and unfulfilling business, and
who finally realises a dream. The novel embodies many of the
life-changing ideas expressed by James Redfield in The
Celestial Prophecy (Bantam Books).

A TWIST IN
TIME by Humphrey
Muller. Published by Writers Press Club. The
main theme of this novel is destiny and time. Can we really alter
time? Would we - or could we - change any details of our
lives if we had the opportunity to go back in time? This is a
question I’ve often mulled over, so in the end I wrote a novel
about it. US price

The protagonist couldn't help falling in love, against
his will. Those who knew him better tried to stop him, to draw him
back, to tell him it was wrong, against the Law of God. But they
couldn't stop him. Because the affair was with God. Or was it?
Perhaps the whole affair was just part of his imagination.

Have
Anything You Really Really Want! A
Christian Testimony
by C H Muller. Writers Club Press. $11.95
£7.89
This little book is a personal testimony, bearing witness to how the
author's faith opened doors and released the power of God -- a God who
loves and cares, who guides us to fulfill the special plan he has for each
one of us.
On one level, it explores the essential principles for personal success
and achievement. It’s a record of how these principles worked for the
author. How did he achieve his three university doctorates? How did he
apply himself, what research methods did he use? On a superficial,
materialistic plane, how did he acquire his Rolls Royce, or his hotel in
Scotland? More info
